Police in the Wamala Region have released the final lists of candidates selected as Special Election Polling Constables following a public advert seeking temporary manpower before, during and after the 2026 general elections.
According to regional police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi, a total of 3,984 recruits have been confirmed across the region.
He said the recruits will serve on a three-month contract and will undergo intensive training to prepare them for their roles in securing the electoral process.
The district breakdown is as follows: Mityana with 974 recruits, Kasanda 760, Kyankwanzi 676, Kiboga 458 and Mubende 1,116.
Kigozi said the numbers reflect strong public interest in supporting election security. He explained that the selection process has been completed and the lists are now available, adding that the recruits will play a critical role in maintaining order and ensuring smooth electoral activities across the Wamala Region.
The recruits are expected to report to their designated training centres starting Monday, December 8.
Police have established three training sites: Mityana and Kasanda recruits will train at Nama Senior Secondary School; Kiboga and Kyankwanzi recruits at Butemba College School; and Mubende recruits at Kaseni Primary School.
Officials said the training period is short but intensive, requiring prompt reporting from all selected candidates.
Kigozi said police have limited time and a wide curriculum, urging the recruits to report without fail so they receive the full training required to carry out their duties effectively.
Recruits are required to carry essential personal items, including bathing items and feeding utensils. Police cautioned against unnecessary luggage due to limited space at the centres.
Kigozi said trainers are already stationed and prepared to receive the recruits, noting that all logistical arrangements have been finalised.
Authorities expressed confidence that the deployment of the new recruits will significantly bolster election security across the Wamala Region.
